Arsenal Sell Midfielder for £9m

Matteo Guendouzi, the hardworking young Arsenal midfielder, has reportedly joined Marseille for £9 million after a successful loan stint with the French club.

Last season, Guendouzi, who is 23 years old, played in all of Marseille’s matches and also made his debut for the French national team.

The move became permanent when the club used a clause in the player’s contract.

Guendouzi played for Arsenal 82 times, but he hasn’t featured for The Gunners since June 2020.

The Frenchman put in some good performances for Arsenal and always seemed to play with passion, although he sometimes looked like he could lose his composure in certain situations.

The news came out on the same day that Jorge Sampaoli left his job as manager of Marseille.

This is good business for Arsenal as they seek to generate more income as they look to add some big money signings to their squad ahead of the new season.

  1. I wouldn’t describe selling a player valued at 20 million for 8/9 million as “good business.” Necessary, perhaps, given the manager’s antipathy towards him, but hardly good. Arsenal actually need a player like Guendouzi, a central midfielder who provides goals and assists. To date,

Arsenal have not signed such a player despite needing one for going on three seasons.

    • I actually liked him but Arteta didn’t seem to rate something about him. You make a good point about the money Paul but I still think it is relatively good business compared to the Auba gift to Barca and his reported £7m contract payout. I agree. We really need a new strong central midfielder.
